Charities
Member donations to the Priory of St. Francis go to these two charities:
The Fisher House™ Program
The Fisher House™ program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
The Veterans Home of California - Yountville - "A Place for Veterans to Live"
Mission:
The Veterans Home of California at Yountville was founded in 1884 to serve the social and medical needs of veterans of the Civil War. Today, the mission of the Home is to provide long term residential care for veterans of all wars in an environment which maintains good health and vitality, reduces incidence and severity of disabilities, increases social interaction, promotes self-reliance and self-worth.
Unique Quality of Life:
Situated on 550 acres surrounded by the vineyards of California Wine Country, the "Home" is actually a community unto itself, just a short walking distance from the picturesque town of Yountville, and less than an hour away from the major cities of San Francisco and Sacramento. Public transportation is readily available. The Home has its own recreation programs and facilities, including a 1,100 seat theater, swimming pool, golf driving range, and creative arts center. Room and board fees are based on ability to pay, providing financial security to those on fixed incomes.
Great Health Care:
The Veterans Home combines the amenities of small-town living with a professional health care center. There are two levels of high quality health care available to new residents; Domiciliary and Licensed Residential. Three additional levels of care are available to meet future medical needs of residents. A special restorative care program helps veterans to resume a more independent way of living. Care is licensed by the State of California Department of Health.
